10 Corso Como pioneered the retail concept destination, creating the radical experience of a “virtual 3D magazine” – a curated mix of cultural mediums in a single place.

Promoting its philosophy of “slow shopping”, 10 Corso Como’s new location occupies the entire first floor of the historic Fulton Market Building and brings the unique visual aesthetic of American artist Kris Ruhs – who created the signature look of all 10 Corso Como locations in Milan, Seoul, Shanghai and Beijing – to the city.

The 28,000-square-foot space features an Italian café and restaurant, fashion, design objects and books, as well as an art and photography gallery and a garden.

With a hamburger chair and an egg rug, banana and cat lamps and sensual lip neon lights, the collection, called BLOW, highlights both Seletti’s and Studio Job’s passion for innovative and unique projects. BLOW explores the boundaries between art and accessible design and celebrates bringing the bold and the playful into the everyday.

FLOS: ARRANGEMENTS

A collaboration between renowned designer Michael Anastassiades and legendary Italian lighting company FLOS, “Arrangements” is a modular system of geometric light elements that can be combined to create unique interplays of light and space. Inspired by the parallel that exists between lighting and jewelry, each unit simply attaches onto the previous one, balancing perfectly as part of a glowing chain.

“Arrangements” offers a range of possible configurations, from the suspension of a few elements, to the creation of a major sculptural installation. 10 Corso Como New York features a specially designed and expertly curated combination of luminescent fixtures.

HELMUT NEWTON PRIVATE PROPERTY

The inaugural exhibition of 10 Corso Como New York, presented by the Fondazione Sozzani in collaboration with the Helmut Newton Foundation, “Helmut Newton, Private Property” features 45 original vintage prints from 1972-1983 that Newton himself considered the most emblematic of his work at the time. Displayed for the first time in the United States, and the first solo exhibition of Helmut Newton’s work, curated by the Helmut Newton Foundation, in the country since 2013, “Private Property” represents an exquisite assortment of fashion and commercial photography, and portraits of the beautiful and famous.

A self-proclaimed invader of privacy, Newton captured a very personal side of celebrity life, staging before his lens the never-ending psychodrama of the contrast between a glamorous exterior and a combustible mix of eroticism, subdued elegance and decadent luxury. His photographs reflect an obsession with human vanity, from female exhibitionism to male voyeurism, and many have become icons of contemporary culture, such as Elsa Peretti in a ‘Bunny’ Costume by Halston (1975), Tied-Up Torso (1980), Self-Portrait with Wife and Models (1981), Sie Kommen (1981), Sylvia in my studio (1981) – to name a few.

RESTAURANT

Inspired by Italian cuisine from regions across the country, the

10 Corso Como restaurant showcases the variety and freshness of Mediterranean flavors alongside specialties from the north. An ever-changing seasonal menu features both traditional Italian cooking, as well as new, nuanced interpretations of many classics.

The historic Seaport District and its famous Fulton Fish Market serve as the inspiration for the fish and seafood dishes. Carefully crafted specialty dishes originating from the Italian “cucina povera”, a type of cooking that has always been a part of the food culture in New York, highlight fresh, flavorful ingredients, including homemade pasta, braised meats and organic salads. An array of Italian wines headline the expertly curated wine list.

The stunning restaurant interior is the creation of artist Kris Ruhs whose designs have driven the visuals of all 10 Corso Como locations. The reflective patterned surfaces of the tables, walls, and floors, the illuminated ceiling of translucent fixtures, and the expansive wall of custom crafted glass tiles behind the circular bar create an ambience of serenity in New York’s 10 Corso Como restaurant.
