Red Bulls facing New England Revolution

The New York Red Bulls facing the New England Revolution at the Red Bull Arena on Saturday for their second meeting this season.

The game is the home part of their 2018 matchups, with the Revs coming out on top, 2-1, at Gillette Stadium in early June. The match is also part of a stretch with four home games out of five matches for the Red Bulls.

“Home games are great, especially against good teams,” Head Coach Chris Armas said following training on Tuesday. “You welcome home games all the time, but I think they’re coming at a really good time, where we can go after games and where we typically do really well.”

Coming off a 3-2 home victory against Sporting Kansas City, Armas said the team is always looking to secure a win at Red Bull Arena.

“I’ll tell you that three points at home is the goal every time,” Armas said. “To see our guys come out and have the right mentality against a really good team, make that push the way they did — really looked like a Red Bull team that was aggressive, fearless, made it really hard for Kansas City.”

New England, a much-improved squad in 2018, are led by rookie head coach Brad Frieldel, with 28 points through 19 games played (1.47 Points Per Game) heading into their Wednesday matchup against Minnesota United FC.

“They’re combative and they play against the ball, they compress spaces, they value playing forward and putting it on the other team,” Armas said. “There’s a lot to his team, they’ll pose any team trouble, and we’ll have to put together a good game, plan, and be ready for what they throw at us.”

Midfielder Sean Davis said they’re a strong squad this season.

“Credit to New England in the way that they’ve evolved this year,” Davis said. “I think they’re a very strong team, a very physical team. Even when we played  them up in Foxborough, we could tell that they’re a very aggressive team and the way that they try to push the game, the way that they press, and the way that they can hit teams on the counter is really dangerous.”

Knowing that, Davis said the Red Bulls will need to play their style of soccer as they look to send their supporters home happy on Saturday night.

“It’s important for us to keep track of their attacking players because all of them are very dangerous,” Davis said. “Credit to them for the way that they’ve adapted and grown, but of course we have our differences and we’ll see how that plays out on the day.”
