9/11 flag returns to NYC after 15 years, #NeverForget
Sunday marks the 15th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. 9/11 Tribute Center gives up close look at the lives lost, and the city will help New Yorkers remember lives lost that day.
The city and NYPD will hold a parade in honor of its members lost on 9/11 and those lost due to 9/11 related illnesses. The parade takes place Friday, Sept. 9 from noon until 3 p.m.
The route begins on Lower Broadway near the Wall St. Bull and ends at the NYPD’s Police Memorial Wall near Liberty St. and South End Ave.
Marchers will hold a memorial service at the end of the route.
9/11 Memorial Ceremony will be held livesteam of the commemoration ceremony, live at Ground Zero, on Sunday.
The livestream starts at 8:46 a.m.
Tribute in Light will take a walk outside to observe the Tribute in Light. The memorial plaza at Ground Zero will also be open from 3 p.m. until midnight for viewing.
The illuminated memorial shines four miles into the sky and can be seen in a 60-mile radius. 88 7,000-watt xenon bulbs in two 48-foot squares echo the shape of the Twin Towers.
Bell of Hope, Calling of the Names at St. Paul’s Chapel: At 8:46 a.m. Sunday, the bell at St. Paul’s Chapel will toll, marking the first plane’s collision into the Trade Center 15 years ago. The bells of Trinity Church will also toll at the same time.
The bell was a gift London gave to New York City in 2002.
The New York City Fire Museum will hold a memorial for FDNY members lost on 9/11. The service begins at 1 p.m. at the museum, located at 278 Spring St. between Hudson and Varick streets.
Many Volunteers opportunities are available around New York, and for many is the best way to remember those lost.
