Celtics on NBA Opening Night Win

The Boston Celtics defeated the Philadelphia 76ers, 105-87, in the first game of the 2018-2019 NBA Season Tuesday night at the TD Garden.

The Celtics beat the Philadelphia 76ers 105-87 on Tuesday to get the 2018-19 NBA season started with a statement win in Boston.

Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward both returned to the court after injuries derailed them last season. Hayward did not even make it out of the first quarter of the first game last year, but he returned to score 10 points with five rebounds and four steals.

Celtics claimed an early edge as the Eastern Conference favourites with this victory.

The NBA’s opening night has been one of the most anticipated dates this year, and it did not disappoint at all. The Boston Celtics came into this game as the highly anticipated heir apparent to the Eastern Conference and lived up to the hype, dispatching their division rival Philadelphia 76ers, 105-87.

The game was a rekindling of a fierce playoff rivalry from last season that produced five hotly contested matches, with the Celtics winning 4-1.

Tonight’s battle featured highlights on both sides, capped off by a monster slam from Jaylen Brown in the fourth quarter.

The Celtics flexed the elite defense that carried them through all of last season, holding a dangerous Philadelphia team to under 90 points. Both teams looked a little rusty, failing to get to their ideal spots, and turning the ball over; but the evidence from both last season’s playoffs and tonight is that Boston is not a good match-up for Philadelphia at all.

The Celts start their 2018-19 campaign on a high note, silencing any doubts about the championship credentials of this team.
