Miami, FL (Monday, August 24, 2026) – Concacaf has confirmed the pathway through which the confederation’s men’s national teams will qualify for the next edition of the region’s flagship men’s international tournament, the 2027 Concacaf Gold Cup.
The 2027 Concacaf Gold Cup will be played between June and July of 2027, and will continue to feature 16 teams competing to be crowned the region’s best men’s national team. The tournament will mark the 19th edition of Concacaf’s biennial premier men’s national team tournament.
Of the 16 participating national teams, eight will qualify directly via the fifth edition of the Concacaf Nations League, seven through the 2027 Gold Cup Preliminary Round (Prelims), and a guest team completing the field.
As in nine previous editions of the Gold Cup, Concacaf will include a guest participant in 2027, with the Saudi Arabian Men’s National Team set to take part in the tournament following their participation in 2025.
As announced in 2024, Concacaf and the Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) entered into a partnership that includes Saudi Arabia’s participation in two editions of the Gold Cup. The partnership was established through Concacaf’s memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), of which SAFF is a member, and also includes collaboration on football development and CSR initiatives, as well as knowledge sharing between the organizations.
2026/27 Concacaf Nations League
The Concacaf Nations League will feature 41 Concacaf Member Associations competing across three leagues during the September-October and November 2026 FIFA Match Windows. League A will consist of 16 teams, including the four highest-ranked nations pre-seeded directly into the Quarterfinals, while Leagues B and C will comprise 16 and nine teams, respectively.
In addition to determining the teams that advance to the 2027 Concacaf Nations League Finals and League B and C Championships, the competition will serve as the sole pathway to the 2027 Concacaf Gold Cup, with teams qualifying directly or advancing to the Gold Cup Prelims and League A and C Play-In based on their Nations League performance.
League A
In League A, Group Stage play will take place in September and October, followed by the Quarterfinals in November. The Quarterfinals will feature the four pre-seeded nations (Mexico, USA, Canada, and Panama) and the group winners and runners-up.
The Quarterfinals will determine the first four nations to qualify for the 2027 Gold Cup. Following the home-and-away series, the aggregate-score winner of each matchup will qualify directly for the Gold Cup, while the four losing teams will advance to the Gold Cup Prelims.
Teams that finish third and fourth in their League A groups will also advance to the Gold Cup Prelims, while teams finishing fifth and sixth will have an additional opportunity to qualify for the Gold Cup Prelims through the League A and C Play-In.
Further details on the Gold Cup Prelims and League A and C Play-In are available below.
League B
In League B, Group Stage play will take place in September-October and November. At the conclusion of the Group Stage, the four group winners will qualify directly for the 2027 Gold Cup, while the two best second-place finishers will advance to the Gold Cup Prelims.
League C
In League C, Group Stage play will take place in September and October. At the conclusion of the Group Stage, the three group winners, along with the best second-place finisher, will advance to the League A and C Play-In.
2027 Concacaf Gold Cup Prelims
The Gold Cup Prelims will be played in March 2027 and will feature 14 national teams competing for the final seven places in the Gold Cup.
The 14 participating teams will include eight from League A (the four Quarterfinalists that do not advance to the Nations League Finals and the third- and fourth-place finishers from the Group Stage), the two best second-place finishers from League B, and the four League A and C Play-In winners.
The Prelims will consist of seven home-and-away matchups, with the aggregate-score winner of each series qualifying for the 2027 Gold Cup.
Participating teams will be seeded based on the Concacaf Rankings, with the highest-ranked team facing the lowest-ranked team, the second-highest facing the second-lowest, and the remaining teams paired according to the same principle. The higher-ranked team will host the second leg of each matchup.
2026 Concacaf Nations League Play-In
The League A and C Play-In will be played in November 2026 and will feature eight national teams competing for four places in the Gold Cup Prelims.
The eight participating teams will include the fifth- and sixth-place finishers from the League A groups and the three League C group winners and the best second-place finisher.
The Play-In will consist of four home-and-away matchups, with the aggregate-score winner of each series advancing to the 2027 Gold Cup Prelims.
Participating teams will be seeded based on their respective League A and League C Group Stage performance, as follows:
PI1: Best 5th Place (League A) vs Best 2nd Place (League C)
PI2: Next 5th Place (League A) vs Best 3rd Group Winner (League C)
PI3: Best 6th Place (League A) vs Best 2nd Group Winner (League C)
