New York City FC suffered a 7-0 loss to the New York Red Bulls in the first of three New York derby match.  It snapped a franchise-best five-match unbeaten streak for NYCFC, which fell to 4-4-5.

Red Bulls jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as they scored three goals in the first half.
The tri-state rivals scored another four goals in the second half and sealed the win.

They lined up after rotating in seven new players to the starting XI in a 1-1 draw with Toronto FC at BMO Field Wednesday, Ronald Matarrita and RJ Allen returned to the starting lineup on the outside of Patrick Vieira’s four-man backline, Federico Bravo played behind Andrea Pirlo and Mikey Lopez in the midfield and David Villa was joined by Tommy McNamara and Khiry Shelton up top.

Jack Harrison and Frank Lampard made their season debuts in the second half.

Harrison made his Major League Soccer debut in the 57th minute, replacing McNamara. Steven Mendoza came on for Shelton in the 69th minute.  The first overall selection of the MLS SuperDraft had been sidelined with a pelvic injury. Harrison, who played for NYCFC Affiliate Manhattan Soccer Club, split a pair of defenders in the 81st minute, but wasn’t able to get a shot off, but that was great impact.

On making his debut… “It was an amazing feeling being out there. The fans have been great this whole time, so supportive. Thankful to the medical staff for getting me back. It’s been a long 4 months working on rehab and stuff. But I’m thankful to get my opportunity and get out there.”

Frank Lampard made his 2016 debut in the 75th minute, replacing Pirlo, Vieira’s final change but his idea wasn’t enough of any luck It wasn’t great at all, fans didn’t appreciated his return.  For the first time this season Lampard was among the game-day 18 after recovering from a calf injury.

The only plus for me today is that physically I feel very good. It’s been a difficult injury – so to feel good and feel 100% and to come on and at least play a part is good for me personally but obviously a very bad day for us.”

On being with the team…
“There’s a lot to be done now. The first thing is that the league hasn’t changed much. We lost a game, we lost three points, so we have to put that in perspective when we look forward as the plus. Obviously seven goals is a huge negative. We need to address the things that let us down today. We were all very honest here. Now is a tough day, and we need to address that, but now we need to start getting back to the things that were helping us get good results. Now is the time to take it on the chin and show a bit of character and get a good result.”

On how he can help this team the most…It’s been frustrating for me because I haven’t been able to do that. I’ll try to help during the week as we have some young players here and I can help them with my experience, but obviously I’ll get fit and try to help on the pitch.”

NYCFC lost for the first time since a 2-0 defeat at Philadelphia April 23. NYCFC will look to bounce back against Orlando City SC next Sunday at Yankee Stadium.

Five minutes before the break, Mike Grella left Federico Bravo on his backside and crossed for Bradley Wright-Phillips to make it two. It was just so easy, and when Wright-Phillips scored the third goal in first-half stoppage time, the game was done. Bradley Wright-Phillips scored twice for the Red Bulls.
