Aleksandar Vučić at the UNGA79
|United Nations Headquarters, NYC., (Sept 26,2024) — The Secretary-General met with H.E. Mr. Aleksandar Vučić, President of the Republic of Serbia.
The Secretary-General and the President exchanged views about developments in the Western Balkans and discussed cooperation between the United Nations and Serbia.
Addressing world leaders in New York, Vucic, dressed in a dark navy suit, confidently articulated Serbia’s stance amidst the increasingly profound global transformation.
“I’m very happy to take part in this Summit,” Vucic began, referencing the UN’s recently adopted Pact for the Future, which aims to enhance international cooperation for the betterment of humanity. He lightened the atmosphere by sharing an anecdote from the satirical comic Alan Ford, stating he would not deliver “tired speeches” about peace being better than war. Instead, he offered a pointed critique of how the most powerful nations flout the rules they claim to uphold.
