Brazil loss over Belgium

World Cup — The match Brazil vs Belgium is listed at 5-1 World Cup odds after opening at 15-1.

Brazil and Belgium have played each other four times, with Brazil winning three of the four matches. The teams most recently met in the 2002 World Cup knockout stage, where Brazil earned a 2-0 victory.

The five-time World Cup champions enter Friday’s quarterfinal with a ton of confidence. Brazil has scored seven goals in Russia 2018, while allowing just one. And Brazil star player Neymar is in top form and will be looking to cause problems for Belgium’s back line, which allowed two goals against Japan. Neymar scored and provided an assist that put the game out of reach for Mexico in the Round of 16.

The model also knows that Belgium is led by powerful scorers such has Romelu Lukaku, Kevin De Bruyne and Eden Hazard and has tallied 12 goals thus far in the World Cup 2018. Belgium has not lost a competitive international match since manager Roberto Martinez took over in August 2016 and is eyeing its second World Cup semifinal.

The game of the tournament, certainly, and probably one of the best matches in recent World Cup history. All I know for sure is that Belgium beat Brazil today, 2-1, in a quarterfinal that had all the intensity, insanity, momentum-swings, and amazing plays that make following this entire dumb spectacle worth every second.

Christ, what is there even left to talk about after watching that. I guess we have to start on the Belgian side. Holy shit, did every single one of them have the game of their lives or what. First let’s give props to their oft-criticized manager, Roberto Martínez, who overhauled the tactics that got them so far in such impressive fashion and was vindicated beyond what anyone could have expected.

Belgium’s penalty area pretty regularly. Belgium’s deep players parried almost every Brazil attack with some heroic last-ditch defending, though, and Thibaut Courtois had a damn near perfect game. Brazil dominated the second half and did pull to within a goal after another brilliant Philippe Coutinho chipped pass, but the World Cup favorites couldn’t find salvation in the form of a second goal and eventually fell.
