CHRISTMAS EVE on 6TH OF JANUARY, by Orthodox believers

Orthodox Christian believers today January 6th, 2021 are celebrates the Christmas Eve, the day before the big Christmas holiday after 3 weeks from the Catholics, according to the Julian calendar is by the old calendar and its very first in this world know.

Christmas Eve is on January 6th, and Christmas on January 7th, and many of Orthodox believers are honoring this wonderful days when families expect and celebrate the news of Christ’s birth in harmony.


On Christmas Eve, from the very morning the voice of children “Koledari” is heard in every house, that with carols for health and prosperity symbolize the voice of angels for the birth of Jesus Christ. The hosts give chestnuts, walnuts, apples, pears, to preserve this beautiful tradition which is passed from generation to generation.

Badnik a Christmas Eve it’s a family holiday. On this day people stay at their homes with their families,  friends or relatives, if they are living abroad they attending at Church organizations. The d badnik’s dinner table in the evening, must be full so that is transportation to remain full season of food and happiness in their’s home.

“Kolede” is celebrating on January 5th at night with lightning up a fire and people family, friends or anyone gathering around with food, music, songs and Balkans have special drink “warm liquor made by plumps or grape”.

Christmas Eve marks the end of the 40th days of Christmas fast. Customs may vary depending on the place, but almost every table has bread pie and Fast food such vegetarian including fruit’s and sweets.

Birth of Jesus Christ is January 7th when the great Christmas holiday comes majority is in January after New Years eve, people greet with the words “Christ is born, and opposite they return  “Really is Born.”
