Copa America semi-finals Argentina vs Canada

CONMEBOL Copa América 2024™ has its first of two semifinals confirmed: Argentina, which defeated Ecuador in penalties, will face Canada, who also won in a penalty shootout against Venezuela.

Argentina and Canada opened the 48th edition of CONMEBOL Copa América™ on June 20 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. Scaloni’s team won 2-0 thanks to goals from Julián Álvarez and Lautaro Martínez. This match also marked the record-breaking appearance of Lionel Messi, making him the player with the most appearances in the history of CONMEBOL Copa América™.

After that match, Argentina defeated Chile (1-0) and Peru (2-0) to top Group A with 9 points, leading to a Quarterfinal match against Ecuador. The game ended in a 1-1 draw, and Argentina won in penalties with Dibu Martínez as the hero.

Canada, making its first appearance in the tournament, achieved a victory against Peru (1-0) and a draw with Chile (0-0) to finish Group A with 4 points. As the second-placed team, they faced Venezuela in the Quarterfinals, which ended in a 1-1 draw. In the penalty shootout, Ismaël Koné scored the decisive 4-3 to advance to the Semifinals.

On July 9, at 8 PM local time (GMT-4), 9 PM in Ottawa (Canada), and 10 PM in Buenos Aires (Argentina), the first finalist of the CONMEBOL Copa América 2024™ will be decided at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
