David Villa

The Manchester City in own words is family to the New York City FC club, proud to announce the signing of its first player, Spanish superstar and World Cup winner David Villa.

Vila, 32-year-old, who last month helped his former club Atletico Madrid to the La Liga title in Spain, joins the newly-formed Major League Soccer team for a three-season commitment.

Since July 2014, the Spain international recently left La Liga champion Atletico Madrid and joined the New York City FC, helped grow this club in growing franchise, Vila said to Goal USA

“I came to New York strictly for sporting reasons, not because of anything else, “The team presented me with a great project that I want to be a part of. Realistically, living in New York is like living anywhere else so the opportunity to live there really wasn’t a factor for me joining the club.”

Villa made decision to play outside of Spain for the first time in his career,  his first move away from his home country was more about wanting a new challenge in new world. But he is excited “I thought it was the right time and the right opportunity. I take it as a new challenge,” Villa said. “In Europe I had won all the championships possible so I saw this as a good challenge to help a new club reach important goals.”

So far, he made 17 goals and he is the third player of the MLS, as he achieved in 27 games, 5 assist and YC 4. Since he signed to play last year, made huge impact for this club and MLS, also great message for fans, and not only that, New York City FC have surpassed 16,000 founding members in incredible how fast our fan base is growing enthusiastic sellout of 27,545 supporters for the match on March 28 at Yankee Stadium, thanks to greatest David Vila.
