Dax McCarty Traded to Chicago Fire

New York Red Bulls have officially announced the trade of captain Dax McCarty to the Chicago Fire. A shocking development at first reported by FourFourTwo USA and afterwards announced by the clubs move will send $400,000 in allocation money to New York, spread over the next two seasons.

“We thank Dax for his service to the club,” said Head Coach Jesse Marsch. “He will go down as one of the best players and captains in franchise history. At this point in time, we felt that this was the right move to put our team in the best position to succeed both now and for years to come.”

McCarty has played 275 MLS games with 163 of them being for the Red Bulls. The team captain was traded to the team in 2011 from DC United and survived the massive turnover that occurred at the end of the 2014 season. McCarty holds clubs record with D.C. United and FC Dallas, leaves New York with 14 goals and 27 assists over 169 regular-season games, plus a goal and an assist in 17 postseason matches. He was part of the team’s first major trophy victory in 2013 when New York hoisted the Supporters Shield as regular season champions.

McCarty got married in the Orlando area on Saturday before jetting to Los Angeles to join the US national team’s January camp, his first international call-up in three years. And will be joining the Chicago Fire midfield alongside former LA Galaxy player Juninho, Nemanja Nikolic goalkeeper Jorge Rodrigo Bava.
