Derek Fisher to join TNT as studio analyst

Derek Fisher is taking time away from Gloria Govan and is resurfacing in the public eye, serving as an in-studio guest analyst on TNT for Thursday’s NBA doubleheader headlined by Spurs vs. Warriors.

Fisher will be sharing the Inside the NBA stage with former teammate and recent Hall of Fame inductee Shaquille O’Neal, and it’s unclear if the topic of Matt Barnes is off limits.

The former Knicks coach – who is still collecting millions of dollars from James Dolan – was fired by Phil Jackson just before the All-Star break, finishing with a 40-96 record less than two seasons into a five-year contract.

He has since been photographed vacationing and smooching with Govan, the reality TV personality who found herself in the middle of a fight between her, boyfriend Fisher and her estranged husband Barnes. Fisher wrote an essay last month to explain that he wasn’t fired because of the fight with Barnes, blaming the media for misrepresenting the incident that occurred across the country in the middle of training camp.

Recently, Barnes took to Instagram to compare Fisher’s actions of dating his ex-wife to that of Lakers rookie D’Angelo Russell, who secretly videotaped a teammate confessing to cheating on his fiancé.

As bad as Fisher’s record was with the Knicks, time has helped his reputation as a coach. The Knicks (31-47) have a worse record under interim coach Kurt Rambis, whose club is 8-16 since Fisher’s firing.
