Fashion Icon Karl Lagerfeld died 85

The Chanel boss’s cause of death as he passes away aged 85. The fashion world is in mourning after the death of Chanel mogul Karl Lagerfeld.

Karl Otto Lagerfeld was a German creative director, artist, photographer and caricaturist who lived in Paris. He was known as the creative director of the French luxury fashion house Chanel, as well as creative director of the Italian fur and leather goods fashion house Fendi and his own eponymous fashion label.

The 85-year-old designer died on February 19, according to sources close to the fashion house, after a period of ill health that spanned several weeks.

He missed two Chanel shows in Paris on January 22 – his first ever in the history of his three-decade reign at the iconic fashion house.

After the second show, the company issued a statement explaining he had been feeling tired.

“Mr Lagerfeld, artistic director of Chanel, who was feeling tired, asked Virginie Viard, director of the creative studio of the house, to represent him,” a statement from Chanel read.

Sources close to the star now say he was rushed to hospital amid a secret battle with pancreatic cancer.

“He hadn’t gone on about his illness, but battled it very bravely,” a source said.

“Karl was very proud of his fitness and healthy living, so the pancreatic cancer came as a huge shock.”

Rumours of ill-health first began circulating in 2017 when Chanel’s 2018 Resort Show was staged in Paris as opposed to its usual far-flung location.
