Givenchy Riccardo Tisci will show this season in NYC

The Riccardo Tisci announced in June, that he would be delivering a whopper of a spring 2016 fashion week show this season and, conveniently, he’d be doing it in New York instead of his usual Paris spot. The show will be “very interesting,” according to Tisci, who enlisted performance artist Marina Abramović to help direct. And just to up that interesting ante, he’s inviting all of us to partake.

According to WWD, Tisci is opening his FW doors to 1,200 “real people” (a.k.a civilians who aren’t aliens, imaginary friends, or celebs) and fashion students, who will attend alongside the usual famous fans like Kim Kardashian West, Katy Perry, and Amanda Seyfried. WWD reports that Givenchy is working with the City of New York on this mission, and tickets, which will be available on a mystery website to be revealed on September 1 at 10 a.m,  via Givenchy.

Marina featured next to Kate Moss in Givenchy’s Spring 2013 campaign. Riccardo designed the costumes for Marina’s ballet dancers. And, in a documentary about her retrospective at MoMA, Marina credits the Givenchy haute couture studios as the exact place she really became a solo artist.
Marina Abramovic, born in 1946 in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, is without question one of the seminal artists of our time. Abramovic exhibited worldwide, since her early age. She was awarded the Golden Lion for Best Artist at the 1997 Venice Biennale for her extraordinary video installation/performance piece Balkan Baroque‚ and in 2003 received the Bessie for The House with the Ocean View‚ a 12-day performance at Sean Kelly Gallery, New York.
