KAKA leaving Orlando City end of season

Kaka has confirmed to leave current club Orlando City at the end of the MLS season, but has not said if he will be retiring from football.

Kaka’s contract with the American club will expire in December and he confirmed in a news conference that he will not be extending it.

‘I want to announce that I am not going to renew my contract with Orlando City. That is all I want to announce. I will honour the Orlando shirt to the end of the season.

‘Pain will not be the base of my decision. As a soccer player, everybody has some pain and we have to sacrifice our bodies for that. My decision is not based on my physical situation and will not be in the future.’

Kaka’s decision follows Andrea Pirlo announcing his retirement come the end of the year. The 38-year-old Italian has been playing for New York City FC.

Orlando owner Flavio Augusto da Silva thanked the Brazilian for his three years of service. He said: ‘You were a very important piece, a very important element, for the success of this club.’

Kaka has made 44 appearances for City, scoring 15 goals, since joining the MLS side in 2014 from AC Milan.

It was at Milan where Kaka enjoyed the bulk of his success. He had two spells at the San Siro, and in the first – between 2003 and 2009 – he won the Ballon D’Or, the Champions League, Serie A, the UEFA Supercup and the Club World Cup.

Kaka, taken part of the Brazil squad which won the 2002 World Cup – he made 92 appearances for his country, scoring 29 goals, and was briefly the world’s most expensive footballer when he joined Real Madrid for £58m in 2009, only to be over taken by Cristiano Ronaldo’s £80m move to the Bernabeu weeks later.
