LA Galaxy will play without Romain Alessandrini
|The LA Galaxy according to sources will be without Romain Alessandrini for this weekend’s match with New York City FC, head coach Sigi Schmid confirmed.
Schmid told reporters on Wednesday that Alessandrini suffered a right hamstring strain during the first half of the Galaxy’s 2-1 victory over the Portland Timbers. The injury occurred just minutes after the French midfielder notched the game-winner to give Los Angeles the win in their first match of the campaign.
“He has a little bit of a hamstring strain,” head coach Sigi Schmid told reporters. “He went back to the doctor today, so we’ll have a better idea what the long-term prognosis is. It looks like he’s not available for New York, but there is a good chance that he’ll be available for Vancouver.”
Alessandrini is one of two Galaxy players currently on the mend with Chris Pontius also dealing with a knock suffered during the match against Portland. Schmid confirmed that the 30-year-old midfielder would be a game-time decision for Sunday’s game against New York City FC.
With the season still in its infancy, Schmid believes it’s essential not to push his players to assure his team is healthy for the long haul.
“This early in the season, we don’t want to put our guys into [too much stress]. It’s the same with some of our other guys at training,” Schmid said. “We pulled Ema out early because he felt a little sore. We want to make sure that no one is getting in danger of injuring themselves.”
