Lampard will leave, could replace Ibrahimovic!

Frank Lampard’s MLS tenure could get any more disastrous and insulting, it was revealed Sunday that the New York City Football Club midfielder rehabbed with another team in England.

The good news for NYCFC fans is this could mean Lampard will leave, perhaps clearing the way for them to join the Zlatan Ibrahimovic sweepstakes.

Lampard missed the beginning of NYCFC’s season because of a calf strain, so he flew overseas and requested to see Chelsea’s doctors, according to Chelsea coach Guus Hiddink, who got the impression Lampard may return to his old club.

It could happen this summer during the transfer window, will be great impact for Lampard to finish the final season of his $6 million annual contract with NYCFC before leaving.
“I said, ‘You are one of this family and we would love you to be in Chelsea when everyone is here (to rehab),’” Hiddink told the Daily Express in England.

“The youngsters loved it. They can learn a lot from him and can accelerate their careers by having an eye on someone big like Lampard.”

This is wrong on so many levels. Instead of staying with his MLS team and mentoring the youngsters there, Lampard served that role with Chelsea a rival of Manchester City, NYCFC’s parent club. This follows news that Lampard has signed with BBC to serve as a TV analyst for the European Championships, which runs through the middle of NYCFC’s season. The team insists Lampard will not miss any practices or games, but what really is the truth.

Lampard is the greatest player in Chelsea’s history but is now in the final season of a massively disappointing two-year deal with MLS. He never showed this season for NYCFC, what a shame.

If MLS and NYCFC manage to send Lampard to Chelsea in July, it will open up a designated Player spot with Ibrahimovic on the market. The striker announced that he played his final game with PSG and reportedly is in discussions with MLS about joining the L.A. Galaxy.

Neither L.A. nor NYCFC currently has the required DP spot to sign Ibrahimovic, but these things often work themselves out. MLS adopted a new rule in 2007 so that David Beckham could sign with the Galaxy.
