Liverpool sign Manchester City youth star

The Liverpool have signed England Under 17 youth international Bobby Duncan following his exit from Manchester City, according to sources.

Duncan, the cousin of Anfield legend Steven Gerrard, put pen to paper on a professional contract on Tuesday. He will officially become a Liverpool player on July 1. Liverpool have paid £200,000 for his signature.

The 17-year-old has been training away from City for the last few months after stalling on a professional contract at The Etihad and making it known he felt his future was elsewhere.

He stated on social media earlier this week he was ending an association with the Manchester club that started when he was 11-years-old.

“It’s been an amazing six years at Manchester City,” he wrote.

“It was a difficult decision for me and my family but the time is right for a new challenge and fulfil my dreams and potential elsewhere.”

Duncan has shone at Academy level and rose to prominence with England in 2016 when he became the first Englishman to score a hat-trick against Brazil.

That was in an Under 16 game, England winning 4-3.

Despite being deprived of club football for his Academy for most of last season, Duncan has continued to represent his country.

The Liverpool-born striker was linked with a return to Merseyside throughout last season, the family link to Gerrard making it inevitable there would be speculation Anfield was his preferred destination.
