Lunar New Year city school closed

Lunar New Year is the first day of a secular, sacred, or other yearwhose months are coordinated by the cycles of the moon.

For the first time, city schools will be closed on Monday for Lunar New Year an important holiday for Asian-Americans across the five boroughs.

New  rules for the school holiday for Lunar New Year as Mayor de Blasio announced today at the press conference

Students are allowed to receive an excused absence for religious and cultural observations, most parents were reluctant to have their children miss a day of school.

Last year the city added two Muslim holidays, and this year Mayor de Blasio has said there are no current plans to add any new holidays. Many Hindu’s groups have been trying to convince city officials to add Diwali the “Festival of Lights” to the list, but that is not in concern in this land, not as much England.
