Manchester City set records 17/18 Premier League Champions

The Manchester City set records as they become 17/18 Premier League Champions. Manchester City announced that they have equal earliest title success in Premier League history. City could set even more records before the trophy lift in May.

Manchester City are Premier League Champions for the third time in seven years following what has been a record breaking season for the East Manchester club.

On Saturday evening, Manchester City secured a scintillating 3-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur putting the team 16 points ahead of their nearest competitor, Manchester United, who on Sunday dropped points against West Bromwich Albion meaning City were officially the 17/18 Premier League champions with five games remaining.

Manchester City have delivered a series of record breaking performances this season and with five games remaining have now equalled Manchester United’s record for the earliest title win in Premier League history. In December, the team secured 18 consecutive Premier League wins, the most any club has achieved. These continued with Pep Guardiola becoming the first manager to win the Premier League Manager of the Month for four successive months, City completing 902 passes against Chelsea in March to accomplish another historic achievement, and then surpassing the highest number of away League wins in one season.

With five games remaining, Manchester City could still set more records before the end of the season on 14 May. If achieved, these would include most wins, most points and most goals in any given season, which could also mean the greatest goal difference ever achieved in a Premier League competition.

Vincent Kompany, Manchester City Captain:

“It’s the same feeling as the first time and you can’t describe it. It’s amazing, such a difficult achievement and I’m proud of the team and everyone involved. This one differs in that we were consistent the whole season and we were able to play at the level we’re expected to perform at.

“I’m buzzing, over the moon, so happy. I’m proud to be able to share this with all our fans, everybody who’s been there to support us.”

Ferran Soriano, Chief Executive Officer, Manchester City:

“Winning the Premier League again is a great honour for Manchester City. We are delighted to have done so providing our supporters with some very exciting and unforgettable moments. We are committed to playing beautiful football and we are proud to have done it so brilliantly this season. For all Manchester City supporters, at home and globally, it is time to celebrate, acknowledge our friendship and enjoy our passion together.”
