Matchups for 2020 Scotiabank Concacaf

Miami (Monday, December 9, 2018) – The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (Concacaf) today conducted the official draw for the 2020 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League, at the historic University of the Cloister of Sor Juana, in Mexico City, Mexico.

The gala event, which included the draw, was hosted by TV personalities Valeria Marin, Maria del Valle and Alexis “Mister Chip” Tamayo, and included football legends DaMarcus Beasley, Christian Gimenez and Cesar Delgado, as well as appearances by Concacaf General Secretary Philippe Moggio and Scotiabank Mexico’s Country Head Adrian Otero.

For the first round of the competition the 16 qualified clubs have been divided into eight pairings. The Round of 16 pairings are as follows:

Matchup #1: Atlanta United FC (USA) vs FC Motagua (HON)
Matchup #2: Club America (MEX) vs Comunicaciones FC (GUA)
Matchup #3: Cruz Azul FC (MEX) vs Portmore United FC (JAM)
Matchup #4: Los Angeles FC (USA) vs Club Leon (MEX)
Matchup #5: Tigres UANL (MEX) vs Alianza FC (SLV)
Matchup #6: New York City FC (USA) vs AD San Carlos (CRC)
Matchup #7: Seattle Sounders FC (USA) vs CD Olimpia (HON)
Matchup #8: Montreal Impact (CAN) vs Deportivo Saprissa (CRC)

Pot 1: Montreal Impact (CAN), Club America (MEX), Cruz Azul FC (MEX), Tigres UANL (MEX), Atlanta United FC (USA), Los Angeles FC (USA), New York City FC (USA) and Seattle Sounders FC (USA).

Pot 2: AD San Carlos (CRC), Deportivo Saprissa (CRC), Alianza FC (SLV), Comunicaciones FC (GUA), CD Olimpia (HON), FC Motagua (HON), Portmore United FC (JAM) and Club Leon (MEX). 

The 2020 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League will continue to be played in a home-and-away direct elimination format that will demand the highest level of performance from the participating clubs from the first kickoff. 

The complete schedule, including dates, kickoff times and host venues will be announced in the coming days. 

Football is a natural fit for Scotiabank, who’s been title sponsor of the Concacaf Champions League and official Bank of the Confederation since 2014.

Fans will be able to enjoy all the action through the Confederation’s partner networks, including TUDN (United States), Fox Sports Latin America (Mexico & Central America), ESPN (Central America), TSN (Canada), Flow Sports (Caribbean) and other local partners. For other territories, the event will be available on Concacaf GO (subject to territory restrictions).
