Meng & Ocasio-Cortez Host ‘Service Academy Day’

New York — Last week, Representatives Grace Meng (NY-6) and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14) hosted a virtual information session for constituents applying to Service Academies and the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps.

This is the second year the two Congresswomen have hosted the event. Full video of the virtual information session is available here. Applicants can also reference Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez’s website or Congresswoman Meng’s website for additional information.

“This is just such an extraordinary time for each and every one of you, for our country, and for the world,” said Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez to students who attended the event. “Even with all of the uncertainty people are facing, I think one of the best things we can do is to give you information, answer any and all of your questions, and make sure you all have everything you need at your finger tips to make the best decisions for yourselves.”

Congresswoman Meng added, “Thank you all for participating today. Thank you also to our representatives from the Air Force Academy, West Point, the Naval Academy, the Coast Guard and the Merchant Marine Academy. Thank you for your service to our country and thank you for your commitment to our students. You all are helping to groom and to train our next generation of leaders. We have some very impressive young people here today.”

Last year, four of Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez’s Service Academy nominees were accepted and three decided to attend – one at the U.S. Naval Academy, one at West Point and the other at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
