Lampard dribbled down the right side, beat on a defender and served up a teasing cross near the 6-yard box that Grabavoy headed home for a 2-0 advantage.

David Villa — who was questionable to play because of a hamstring injury —  scored another goal with an assist by Grabavoy two minutes later and New York City lead 3-0.  Josh Saunders booted a goal kick into the middle of the field, like last Wednesday match vs. Toronto FC,  he came out and stiffed any of the opportunity.

In 72-minute San Jose scored by Quincy Amarikwa out-leapt his secondary ball from corner kick cutting the deficit to 3-1.  The other kick was following by Chris Wondolowski penalty, Angelino’s takedown of Amarikwa in the box in the 75th minute, 3-2. Goal was scored on a penalty by Chris Wondolowski, and the first kick by Amarikwa raced toward goal.

San Jose loss tried hard, but the New York City FC appeared with great lead in the home Yankee Stadium with 3-2, head coach Jason Kreis :

“I think Ned, he worked extremely hard Wednesday. I thought he was extremely instrumental in us getting that result. The amount of work he was putting in just to get forward in transition, it was enormous in support of Patrick Mullins. So, tonight I’m really pleased to see him get a couple of goals. He’s working extremely hard and it’s guys like that I think that you need to come through for you in the most critical of times.”
