New England Revolution 2017 Roster Status
The New England Revolution announced that Roster Status 2017 contract options on 12 players. The players whose options were picked up include forward Juan Agudelo, forward Teal Bunbury, goalkeeper Cody Cropper, defender Andrew Farrell, midfielder Zachary Herivaux, forwardFemi Hollinger-Janzen, goalkeeper Brad Knighton, defender Donnie Smith, defender Chris Tierney, goalkeeper Matt Turner, defender Je-Vaughn Watson, and defender London Woodberry.
Seven players are already under contract for the 2017 season: midfielder Scott Caldwell, midfielder Diego Fagundez, forward Kei Kamara (DP), midfielder Xavier Kouassi (DP), midfielder Lee Nguyen, midfielder Kelyn Rowe, and goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth.
The club did not exercise options on two players: defender Jordan McCrary and midfielder Steve Neumann. In addition, four Revolution players are out of contract on Dec. 31, 2016: defender Darrius Barnes, defender José Gonçalves, midfielder Daigo Kobayashi, and midfielder Gershon Koffie.
Per Major League Soccer rules, the Revolution have until Wednesday, Dec. 14 to re-sign any re-entry draft eligible players, including players whose options were not exercised.
The next phase of the offseason calendar is the MLS Expansion Draft on Tuesday, Dec. 13 at 2:00 p.m. ET. Two MLS clubs, Atlanta United and Minnesota United FC, will each select five players for their inaugural rosters ahead of their entry into the league in 2017; each current MLS club may only lose one player in the Expansion Draft. The Revolution’s list of 11 protected players will be made public on or before Monday, Dec. 12.
