New York City FC Partnership with SPORTIME Randall’s Island
|New York City FC announces new partnership this summer with SPORTIME at Randall’s Island, one of the largest and most comprehensive tennis and sports training center, home to the John McEnroe Tennis Academy, will serve as the home base for nine weeks of New York City FC activity this summer, including the second preseason for the Club’s Youth Academy.
There will be five weeks of soccer camps built upon the New York City FC Academy coaching ethos for kids ages 7-15, one week of community programming supported by NYCFC Youth Academy and three weeks of NYCFC Academy preseason training camp.
The summer camps will be broken into four categories for ages 7-9, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14. Camp will take
place from June 20-July 29, excluding the July 4th week. “We’re thrilled to partner with SPORTIME Randall’s Island, whose facilities will provide our home base for New York City Football Club this summer,” New York City FC Sporting Director Claudio Reyna said. “This new partnership with SPORTIME, a company that has been training talented young athletes for decades, gives us amazing access to fields and training and support facilities in the heart of New York City, which we will utilize to further engage the soccer community of New York and to get our Academy ready for the upcoming season.”
Founder and Director of SPORTIME, tennis legend John McEnroe, is happy to welcome New York City FC to Randall’s Island, “I am pleased that the NYCFC’s New York City summer Academy camp will be based at
SPORTIME Randall’s Island, the home of my Academy.
I played soccer during my junior high and high school years, often on Randall’s Island, and have always been a fan of the sport generally and from a tennis cross- training perspective. I’m looking forward to seeing this terrific partnership with NYCFC flourish.” There will be three independent training sessions each day: morning, afternoon and early evening.
Registration will be capped for boys and girls to ensure an appropriate player-to-coach ratio of 12:1.
Each session will be 2.5 hours, allowing for maximum performance from participants in the heat of the summer. Technical foundational skill training will be the primary focus, with each session’s structure based on field rotations that facilitate participants learning from a variety of New York City FC coaches, while obtaining a broad range of skill sets throughout the week. All skill levels are welcome and all participants will receive first-class youth coaching utilizing fantastic facilities in the heart of New York City, while receiving support and expertise from the NYCFC first team, who will make a series of appearances at the camp.
“The camps are a great opportunity for boys and girls of all levels, because the students will be learning to play the New York City FC way, directly from our Academy and Youth Affiliate Coaches,” Reyna said. “In addition to the soccer, the kids will also be educated on healthy living and personal development, consistent with our dedication across the football club not only to develop great soccer
players, but to develop great young people. New York City FC has found the perfect partner in SPORTIME, an organization that is very experienced at delivering first-class summer camp programs, with the best coaching and the safest, best facilities. Our three-part summer programming will provide the total New York City FC experience for youth from local New York City communities.”
