New York City FC to a massive 1-0 win over the LA Galaxy

After good rain weather cleared up for the match, with beautiful sun and David Villa scored goal in the sixth minute to help lift New York City FC to a massive 1-0 win over the LA Galaxy in front of a crowd of 35,509 at Yankee Stadium Saturday afternoon.

NYCFC (11-7-8) extended their lead atop the Eastern Conference to four points over Toronto FC in their fourth consecutive match without a loss, while LA Galaxy (9-4-11) had their nine-game unbeaten streak snapped.

Villa pounced on the rebound of a shot by Ronald Matarrita that LA Galaxy goalkeeper Clement Diop got a piece of and tapped in from the edge of the six for his MLS-leading 16th goal of the season.

Villa had an opportunity for a second goal in the 35th minute. Andrea Pirlo picked off a Daniel Steres attempted clearance and slipped a pass to Villa, whose first shot was saved by Diop. Villa’s second chance with his left foot went off the outside netting.

Both teams went end-to-end two minutes from halftime with Josh Saunders batting away a Nigel De Jong bicycle kick and Diop parrying away a Jack Harrison shot for an NYCFC corner.

Harrison put a shot just over the crossbar from 20 yards out in the 66th minute. Ten minutes later, Pirlo put a free kick from 22 yards out over the net.

Highlights from last game made big impact that MLS Disciplinary Committee dealt with a pair of incidents involving head coaches on Friday, fining Portland’s Caleb Porter and rejecting a red-card appeal from Patrick Vieira of New York City FC, for actions taken during Week 23 of the MLS season. Additionally, an Independent Review Panel upheld the suspension of NYCFC defender Maxime Chanot.

The Disciplinary Committee fined Portland Timbers head coach Caleb Porter for unsporting behavior during a hydration break in the 77th minute of Portland’s match against D.C. United on Aug. 13.

Vieira appeal
The Disciplinary Committee, which handles coach/staff appeals, rejected an appeal of the dismissal issued to New York City FC head coach Patrick Vieira on Aug. 13 after a match against Columbus Crew SC. Vieira received a red card and was dismissed after the final whistle for irresponsible behavior. As Vieira’s ejection was upheld, he will be suspended for NYCFC’s Aug. 20 game against the LA Galaxy.

Chanot appeal
The Independent Review Panel – which consists of a representative each from the US Soccer Federation, Canadian Soccer Association and Professional Referees Organization – rejected an appeal of the dismissal issued to New York City FC defender Maxime Chanot on Aug. 13. The red card was issued at the conclusion of NYCFC’s match against Columbus for foul and abusive language. As Chanot’s ejection was upheld, he will be suspended for NYCFC’s Aug. 20 game against the LA Galaxy.

Since each MLS club is entitled to two unsuccessful appeals this season, New York City FC will not be able to appeal any future dismissals during the 2016 season after the appeals for Vieira and Chanot were both denied.

After all, team proud prouve the winning game without coach Patrick Vieira, and that put lead for next match, keep strong and motivated, after press conference Captain David Villa disappeared lots of journalists waiting him in the locker room, however he might have big reason not to speak out, but after all great job with his goal and put the lead agead his club and rest of the team.

Well played!  #NYCFC
