New York City Football Club Announces Roster for 2023 Preseason
|New York, N.Y., (January 12, 2023) – New York City Football Club today announced the Club’s preseason roster ahead of the 2023 season. Ahead prior to the Major League Soccer season and goalkeeper Sean Johnson wasn’t included.
Johnson, the team who backstopped City to the 2021 MLS Cup championship, is a free agent and reportedly is a target of Toronto FC, an Eastern Conference rival.
The Club is scheduled to depart later today for training camp beginning in Orlando, Florida.
The 31 players make this season’s preseason roster in Orlando. Six Academy, NYCFC II players, and one trialist will join the First Team this year. MLS SuperDraft selections Malcolm Johnston, Braudilio Rodrigues and Matthew Myers will also travel with the team.
Gabriel Pereira and Mitja Ilenič will report to camp upon receipt of their P-1 Visa. Chris Gloster will not be traveling to Orlando due to illness. NYCFC opens their preseason slate against Minnesota United on January 18, 2023.
