New York City Football Club Signs Mitja Ilenič from NK Domžale
New York, N.Y., (January 4, 2023) – Today New York City Football Club (NYCFC) announced that it has signed defender Mitja Ilenič from Slovenian side NK Domžale through 2026 with an option for 2027, pending receipt of his ITC and P1 visa. So excited to our media as well Balkans living in NYC, USA are happy to support this club even more the very first Balkan ex Yugoslavian player arriving in NYCFC.
The Slovenian right back made 32 appearances in the first division of Slovenia, scoring three goals across all competitions with The Yellows. The 18-year-old has made seven appearances for the youth national team at all youth levels. Ilenič became the second youngest player to play for the U21 Slovenian National Team at the age of 17 years two months and 27 days.

Mitja made his professional debut for Domžale in May 2021 in a league fixture against NK Aluminij Kidricevo at only 16-years-old. The talented right back has also played in the UEFA Youth League and the UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying.
