|The New York Cosmos announced today the signing of center back, Dejan Jaković, ahead of the 2017 NASL Season. The deal is pending International Transfer Certificate approval.
“We welcome Dejan to the organization,” said Cosmos Head Coach and Sporting Director, Giovanni Savarese. “He is a very seasoned player who can add positive things to the squad. We look forward to seeing him on the pitch.”
Jaković, 31, began playing professional soccer in Canada before moving to Serbian side, Red Star Belgrade in 2008. He joined MLS’ D.C. The Canadian international made his senior debut in 2008 and represented his country during the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Jaković has been a key contributor for the North American soccer team, continuing to help strengthen their defense.
“It is a great honor to join the New York Cosmos,” said Jaković. “This is a team with great history and numerous accomplishments. I am delighted to play for such prestigious club.”
The Cosmos also announced the signing of Argentine midfielder, Emmanuel Ledesma. The 28-year-old spent his professional career playing in Italy, England, Argentina and Greece, now adding to the New York Cosmos midfield.
“Emanuel joined the team during preseason and showed some interesting progress,” said Savarese. “He will definitely add depth and quality to our squad, as we look to open the 2017 Season in great fashion.”
