New York in 25’ campaign

NEW YORK – Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment Commissioner Julie Menin today announced the launch of “New York in 25,” a year-long public awareness campaign promoting NYC Life, the City’s official television channel, which appears as channel 25 on most cable providers, and channel 25.1 over the air. The print, digital, and broadcast campaign features prominent New Yorkers describing the reasons why they love New York City – in exactly 25 words.

“The ‘New York in 25’ campaign celebrates all that our city has to offer, and reflects the diverse and exciting programming available on NYC Life,” said Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment Commissioner Julie Menin. “We are delighted to have a well-known group of New Yorkers lending their charisma to help us make ‘channel 25’ a household name. NYC Life is available at no cost to New Yorkers in all five boroughs, and this campaign makes people aware of our informative and award-winning programming.”

The ‘New York in 25’ campaign kicks off with Tracee Ellis Ross, actress and star of Black-ish; Samantha Bee, host of Full Frontal with Samantha Bee; Zac Posen,fashion designer and author; andRupert Jee, longtime David Letterman sidekick and New York City business owner. It includes a print campaign, which will debut in subway cars across the five boroughs today, and a video component which will air on Taxi TV in the city’s 13,000 yellow cabs and on NYC Life.

As the campaign continues into Summer and Fall 2018, additional New York City personalities will be featured in print and videos. They include actorsDaphne Rubin-Vega, Edie Falco, Bridget Moynahan, Dean Winters,and Craig muMs Grant; journalistsGayle King and Norah O’Donnell; andTom Fontana, executive producer of HBO’s OZ.

Under the direction of Commissioner Menin, NYC Life’s slate of programming has grown and evolved to reflect the diversity of experiences of New Yorkers and their communities. Two new shows, Her Big Idea and Vanguard: Women in Media, highlight women leaders in industries across New York City’s economy, from small business owners to high-profile journalists. Her Big Idea in particular has enjoyed high viewership: the show’s ratings have surpassed channels like Sundance and Fusion, an extraordinary feat for a non-commercial municipal channel. NYC Life’s programming also places a premium on stories of ethnic and cultural diversity, and informative shows about New York City history.

NYC Life recently received nine New York Emmy Award nominations for its most innovative original programming, including Her Big Idea, a celebration of New York’s women entrepreneurs;Blueprint: New York City, which delves into the history of the city’s most iconic buildings; Native Dish, stories of New York City’s immigrants and their diverse cuisines; and Neighborhoods Slice, portraits of longtime residents of New York City neighborhoods as they reveal the historical and cultural significance behind the streets they call home.

NYC Media, and its most watched channel NYC Life, reaches about 18 million people in a 50-mile viewing radius. The station is available on channel 25 on many New York City cable providers including Spectrum, Direct TV and RCN. NYC Life is also available on Verizon/Fios (Ch. 525), Comcast (Ch. 1025) and on Optimum (Ch. 22). The channel’s programming can also be viewed on demand at NYC.gov/life.
