New York Liberty Wins 7th in a Row; Outlasts Mystics at The Garden 74-66

NEW YORK, N.Y. – AUG. 25, 2017 – The Liberty (19-12) won its 7th in a row, defeating the Washington Mystics (17-13) 74-66 on Friday night at The Garden. Epiphanny Prince and Tina Charles both scored 20 points to lead the Liberty.

New York moved a game and a half ahead of Washington for the No. 4 seed in the WNBA playoffs, and also pulled within one game of Connecticut for the No. 3 position after the Sun lost on Friday night to the Chicago Sky, 96-83. New York hosts Chicago on Sunday afternoon at 3 PM.

The Liberty broke open a close game with a 14-2 run from the end of the 3rd period deep into the 4th. Bria Hartley hit a 3-pointer near the end of the 3rd to put New York in front by 1, and Prince nailed a three to start the scoring in the 4th quarter and the Liberty never trailed again, with its lead reaching as many as 10 down the stretch. The Mystics were limited to just 6 points in the 4th quarter, 4 of which came over the final 1:01 of the game.

• The Liberty won their 7th game in a row to improve to 19-12 overall. The 7-game winning streak is the longest for the Liberty since a 10-game streak in 2010

• New York won its 6th game in a row and has not lost at Madison Square Garden since a setback against the Chicago Sky on July 14. 2010 was also the last time the Liberty won 6-straight at home, that year they won 8-straight home games

• New York won the season series against the Mystics 2-1 and now own the head-to-head tiebreak in the standings.

• The Liberty moved just a game back of the Connecticut Sun for 3rd place in the league standings.

• Tina Charles scored 20 points to move into a tie with Chamique Holdsclaw for 20th all-time in scoring at 4,716 points

• Epiphanny Prince finished with 20 points, her 3rd 20-point game of the season and 1st since scoring 21 against Los Angeles on May 30

• This was just the 3rd time this season both Tina Charles and Epiphanny Prince scored 20 points in the same game; Liberty 2-1 when that is the case.

• New York improved to 10-0 when leading at home heading into the 4th quarter

• The Liberty moved to 15-4 leading in second chance points

• New York is 11-3 when Bria Hartley scores in double figures, she had 10 points on Friday night

• The Liberty put the game out of reach with a 14-2 run from end of the 3rd quarter into the 4th

• The Liberty are allowing just 10.3 ppg off turnovers during its 7 game winning streak, well below its season average of 14.3 ppg.
