New York Red Bulls will travel to Tijuana, Mexico

The New York Red Bulls will travel to Tijuana, Mexico to take on Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente on March 6 for Leg 1 of the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League Quarterfinals.

The game is set to kick off at 10 p.m. ET at Estadio Caliente.

The two clubs will face off again at Red Bull Arena on March 13 at 8 p.m. for Leg 2.

“Now, the stakes get raised quite a bit,” Head Coach Jesse Marsch said following New York’s victory over Club Deportivo Olimpia. “Tijuana is a very good team and we know they like to spread the field, they are a very good passing team. When Tijuana spreads the field they hit you from one side and quickly get the other and it’s a good passing team, it’s a fit team, it’s a talented team.”

Tijuana qualified for the 2018 Champions League with the best regular season record in 2017 Clausura, the second championship of the Liga MX season.

They currently sit in 10th place in Liga MX, with 13 points through nine matches.

Tijuana topped Honduran-side F.C. Motagua in the Round of 16, advancing on a 2-1 aggregate victory (0-1, 1-1).

“For me and for us, this is really exciting,” Marsch said. “We felt the pressure of a big game and now we will be put to the test and I know we are all excited about the challenge.”
