NYCFC having yet win match this season
Following last weekend’s 4-0 defeat in Toronto, Dome Torrent head coach made three changes to his lineup for this one, bringing in Ronald Matarrita, Sebastien Ibeagha, Jonathan Lewis and Taty Castellanos.
The NYCFC’s first chance came early in the game, when Alexandru Mitriță nearly found the back of the net inside the first 10′ but his low, goalbound strike was met by Bush who made a stop which would not be his last.
At the other end, Maxime Chanot and Sebastien Ibeagha shone in the backline, making tackles and taking names throughout an industrious but relatively quiet first half.
Matarrita perhaps had NYCFC’s best shot of the first 45’, forcing Bush into a good save down to his left with a fiercely-hit volley from the left side of the box.
Ismael Tajouri-Shradi was brought on early in the second half and he did finally force the ball into the back of the net past Bush shortly after – however, the linesman had his flag up, ruling out the goal for offside, cutting the celebrations short.
In the 61’ minute, Dome Torrent put newly-acquired striker, Héber into the mix to make his debut for NYCFC and the Brazilian was met with a proper Bronx welcome by fans who had been waiting to see their new #9 in action.
There was a big twist on 69’ when Urruti stamped down on Chanot’s foot and was shown a red card on VAR review, giving the Boys in Blue a man advantage for the final 20 minutes.
However, City could not take advantage despite a late cavalry charge and the team had to settle for its second scoreless draw of the season.

“We have to be able to play much better because in the training sessions, they were able to score goals, and amazing goals. When we play here, we will need to win one game. When it happens, our confidence will be much, much better and we’re able to win the next game. But we fought until the last moment – that for our players is good. But everybody knows we needs to score because the sport in general is about that – it’s about the results. You can play much better than the opening but after that if you’re not able to win the game, especially when we play here at home, we will need to get three points.”

“It’s about the attitude. I repeat, they fought until the last moment – they wanted to win the game and they know how important it is for our club to play in the playoffs. I’m happy with them. Maybe in Toronto it was a little bit different and I accept it – but not today, not against LA, not against DC. I think the players tried to win the game and fight until the last moment – it’s not about the attitude, especially today.”

It’s a tough one, I honestly think if we had the answers, we would have turned a lot more of these results into wins. Obviously we’re working hard every day, that’s all we can really do, just continue to put our best foot forward as players and try to find a solution. At the end of the day right now, it is just not clicking, and we just have to stay positive.
On if NYCFC’s form is only based in their mentality..
We’re going out with the guys and going out and fighting every game, we want to win games. It is no lack of effort, putting our hard hats on and going to work every single day and training hard. Like I said, the results just aren’t there…We wanted to come out today and really take it to Montreal, came up a bit short. It was for no lack of effort, you can only do what you can control, and right now were trying to figure out what that is.

That is what [makes you mad] after the match. You give it [your] all, you show a good reaction after a bad game in Toronto, and then you’re still sitting here with one point never the less. Like I said, it was a good reaction after Toronto but if we want to win games, we have to score goals.

“The team needs to win our first game. It doesn’t matter if we play good or bad, we have to start winning. That’s what we live for in soccer and I think the team is trying their best and we have to increase our goal percentage and the games will get better.”
On how different training was this week…
“It was different, we had a desire to gain three points today even though we weren’t able to. I believe we have improved from last game and the team is playing well and we are working on gaining three points in the upcoming matches.”

“It’s always difficult to play. It was really dry. It is really small, but it’s for both teams. We knew what we had to do avoid getting goals against us. We’re a team that try to play out of the pack [and] try to build up from the back. It’s hard here, especially with New York pressing all the time. You can’t really find your rhythm into the game.”
