NYCFC re-signed Maxime Chanot

NEW YORK, N.Y., – New York City FC today announced that defender Maxime Chanot has signed a new multi-year contract with the Club.

Chanot said: “I’m very happy to sign a new contract with New York. The Club has been very successful over the past few years and I know we will continue to improve and remain one of the best teams in the league.

“I want to thank God for this opportunity. Of course, a big thank you to the Club and everyone involved at NYCFC who have helped me in my time here and will continue to support me going forward.”

Chanot continued with a message for the fans who’ve backed him since his first day with the Club.

“Thank you to the supporters. You have been fantastic from the moment I arrived and always showed me unconditional support. It means everything to me.”

Sporting Director Claudio Reyna brought Chanot to the Club in July 2016 and the French-born Luxembourg National Team defender has paid the Club back in spades ever since, with stoic defending and relentless leadership.

Reyna said: “Maxime has been an integral part of our Club since 2016 and has proven to be one of the best defenders in MLS. He’s a fantastic leader in the locker room and we’re happy to have him at NYCFC for 2019 and beyond.”

Head Coach Doménec Torrent also expressed his pleasure that his leader at the back has re-committed his future to the City.

Torrent said: “Maxime is an incredible player and we’re excited to have him back for the next few years. He is a key part of one of the best defensive pairings in the league and having him adds consistency to the backline ahead of next season. His experience and leadership is a great asset for the younger players and Maxime’s professionalism helps us not only on the pitch, but in the locker room as well.”

Maxime has been a stalwart in defense ever since the 29-year old made his first appearance for NYCFC vs. the Colorado Rapids in July of 2016 after spells with a number of clubs in England, France and Belgium.

Chanot has gone on to make 43 regular season appearances across 3,776 minutes, and five playoff starts in his first three seasons with New York City FC – including four goals. In 2018, Chanot scored two key goals – the first on Decision Day which secured a home field playoff game for the Club followed by a goal during the conference semi-finals against Atlanta United.

His record with Luxembourg is equally impressive with 31 caps and three goals across all competitions since 2013.

A fan favorite for his force on the field, and his friendliness off it, Chanot will continue to grow in leadership this coming season.

Everyone at the Club would like to congratulate Maxime on his new contract.

Welcome back, Max!
