Preseason NYCFC Full Schedule Revealed
|The New York City FC today announced the finalized schedule for the Club’s 2018 preseason program.
Following announcements on friendly matches vs. LA Galaxy and Club Atlético de San Luis, NYCFC can today confirm their remaining four preseason engagements in preparation for the Club’s fourth Major League Soccer campaign.
Patrick Vieira’s men will return to Jacksonville, Florida on January 22 to commence Preseason 2018 where they will take on Jacksonville University in a behind closed doors scrimmage on January 31.
On February 9, an additional game vs. MLS newcomers LAFC will now take place at UCLA, on the eve of City’s friendly vs. LA Galaxy.
Following their trips to California and Mexico, NYCFC will return to Florida for the final leg of preseason, taking on Real Salt Lake and Montreal Impact on February 22 and February 24 respectively.
The game vs. RSL will take place behind closed doors as a scrimmage, while the showdown with Montreal will feature as part of the Suncoast Invitational tournament in St. Petersburg and will be open to fans.
Head Coach Patrick Vieira said: “These games against Real Salt Lake and Montreal will be really important for us as we try to prepare both physically and tactically for the season ahead.
“Hopefully we’ll have no injuries and that will mean we’ll be able to give every player in the squad at least a couple of 90 minute games each.
“Tactically, it will be important for the players to play in these matches in order to get an idea of what it is that we’re looking for in a game situation and to fully understand how we want to play.”
NYCFC kick off their 2018 MLS campaign on the road at Sporting Kansas City on Sunday March 4 before the Home Opener at Yankee Stadium vs. LA Galaxy on Sunday March 11.
