Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have a new baby girl

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have a new baby girl! The couple announced on Sunday that their daughter, Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, was born earlier this weekend. In an official statement, the couple said, “On June 4th, we were blessed with the arrival of our daughter, Lili. She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we’ve felt from across the globe. Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family.”

Lili is named after two powerful women on her father’s side: her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, and her late grandmother, Diana, Princess of Wales. Lilibet is an early family nickname of the Queen’s that dates back to when she was a toddler and struggled to pronounce her own name correctly. The couple’s daughter is eighth in line to the British throne, right after her brother Archie. She is the fifth grandchild of Prince Charles, and the eleventh great-grandchild for Queen Elizabeth.

In an official statement from Buckingham Palace, the royal family said, “they have been informed and are delighted with the news of the birth of a daughter for The Duke and Duchess of Sussex.” In a separate post of his own, Prince Charles wrote, “Congratulations to Harry, Meghan and Archie on the arrival of baby Lilibet Diana. Wishing them all well at this special time. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, aka Prince William and Kate Middleton, also posted separately, writing, “We are all delighted by the happy news of the arrival of baby Lili. Congratulations to Harry, Meghan and Archie.”
