RBNY facing FC Dallas

Red Bulls following in focus towards a FC Dallas team that comes in second in the standings of the Western Conference, having only lost one match all season.

The Red Bulls know a tough challenge lies ahead, but are excited about the opportunity.

“We know we’re in for a really good game,” Head Coach Jesse Marsch said. “A team that has a lot of high confidence, a team’s that’s very explosive and will challenge the way that we play and the things that we do. It sets up to be a big challenge for us and we’re excited.”

Part of that challenge will be winning the midfield, and preventing Roland Lamah and Maxi Urruti, who are the top two goal scorers for FC Dallas, from adding to their season totals.

“I think it’s a battle on the day that sets up well for us,” Tyler Adams said. “It’s one that we have to win the midfield because they have some playmakers in there. Obviously, Gruezo, Acosta, Mauro Diaz, whoever plays in there, they connect the passes with those front guys, and then those front guys create chances, so obviously, recovery runs and trying to stop their counter attack, which they’re a very fast team and very good in transition, will be important for us.”

Mauro Diaz, who is second in assists in MLS, is someone the Red Bulls know they have to key in on.

“When Diaz plays and when he doesn’t it’s drastic,” Marsch said. “He winds up being an incredibly important guy in everything that they do with the ball. We’ll have to identify him, it’ll be a lot of the job on Tyler on the day, but Sean will also have to be aware of him.”

“I mean we got to stay compact, we got to watch them on the counter because we know they’re good at that,” Aaron Long said. “Mauro Diaz is a big part of the day because he springs them into attack a lot, so he’s a big piece, and Urruti is good at just shooting all around the box.”

The matchup between the two clubs is set to kickoff Saturday, at 6 p.m. on UniMas, and can be heard on New York Red Bulls Radio in English and Spanish on TuneIn.
