Ruben Bover moved out for good out of NY Cosmos
|New York Cosmos, has return most of the players, but one is not coming back. Ruben Bover winger 24-year-old was born in Mallorca and began his English career at Kidderminster Harriers in 2009.
He joined Charlton Athletic in 2011 before heading to the MLS with New York Red Bulls where he played 23 times.
After an encouraging run of re-signings from last year’s championship squad over the last two weeks, New York Cosmos supporters can check off one player who won’t be returning.
Former Cosmos winger Ruben Bover has landed in England with Barnet FC, inking a deal after demonstrating his talents as a trialist with the League Two side.
The move is a return to Europe for Bover, who spent four years in the country to kick off his professional career after developing in the youth system of his hometown team Mallorca, also spent time at Kidderminster Harriers and Charlton Athletic while in England but only appeared in matches for Halesowen Town.
Bover, in 2013 to sign with the New York Red Bulls and went on to make 22 appearances in two seasons with the Major League Soccer side. The Spaniard was waived by the Red Bulls weeks before the start of the 2015 season, signed up with NY Cosmos. He shined with the team’s reserve side Cosmos B in his first year, picking up NPSL MVP honors and helping the team claim a league title in its first season. Bover’s productive run in the NPSL earned him a full-time spot with the Cosmos first team and he did not disappoint. The midfielder recorded four goals and two assists through 24 appearances in the team’s run to the championship last year.
Barnet FC is currently tied on points for the final promotion playoff spot and is only eight points back of guaranteed promotion to League One.
Almost the start of the NASL season, the Cosmos currently have nine announced players on their roster so far.
