The Cords & Co’s FW18 collection
|The Cords & Co’s FW18 releases their new collection that takes us to the mountainous landscape of the Mojave Desert in Eastern Cali- fornia.
Drawn to the dynamic natural scenery captured by photographer Jordan Sullivan in his “Death Valley series”, the collection channels the brand’s continuous fascination with the rural and authentic. Like any piece of wilderness, the desert is a place to find peace as well as energy. The balance between these two elements has influ- enced the look and silhouette of the season as well as the palette and print exploration.
True to the brand’s bold quest to push the boundaries of typical corduroy concepts, the collection sees a novel emphasis on outerwear. Key pieces include cropped biker jackets, quilted bombers, puffer jackets and drawstring anoraks – updated classics all reimag- ined in the brand’s signature premium corduroy. Cropped tops and flared trou- sers with accentuated zip detailing add to the 70s sentiment of the collection. Familiar styles like one pocket shirts, painter jackets and chinos in a library of wales emphasise the brand’s dedica- tion to workwear. The recurring leopard print and a romantic floral print add an accent to the collection and create an interesting contrast to the nature-in- spired hues in forest green, grape, dark navy and charcoal. The collection sees a welcomed continuation of the jersey programme, featuring T-shirts, sweatshirts and hoodies with playful graphic interpretations of the logo. The core five pocket trousers for men and women in black, khaki and indigo are mainstays. In sum, FW18 reinforces The Cords’ dedication to exploring the classic fabrication of corduroy in a nov- el and contemporary way.
“With our FW18 collection we wanted to shed new light on the beauty and versatility of corduroy. By tapping the iconic fabric’s past through retro-in- spired shapes; modernity via novel de- tailing; and the natural world in the se- lection of colours, our aim is to deliver disruptive corduroy pieces relevant for the modern day.”
