Top Trends discovering from F/W19
Fashion shows from around the globe and thanks to the 60 second fashion reviewby the ‘Terry Gross’ of fashion, Jessica Michault, the new season has finally come into full focus, so we bring to you the new key trends we’re obsessing over that will set the pace for your winter wardrobe.
Big shoulders and puffy sleeves
A trend this season that is bound to keep your head on strong is the exaggerated silhouette of the upper-body. Accentuated shoulders and large puffy sleeves were prominent features on many of the fall/winter 19 catwalks. Whilst Balenciaga and Alexander McQueen gave us ultra-soft curves, designers like Saint Laurent and Louis Vuitton went with a sharper aesthetic thanks to the addition of shoulder pads and structured sleeves which further exaggerate the silhouette.
Be bourgeois
Season after season has featured conceptual fashion styles, but last February’s runway shows sported more conventional and elegant looks. Midi skirts, pleated pants, lavalier blouses, and even moccasins all had their moment on the catwalk. Classically familiar silhouettes received a modern update, thanks to strong-shouldered jackets nipped in at the waist and contemporary color palettes. Whether you favor Fendi’s neo-bourgeois version, Hedi Slimane’s tribute to the old-Celine or Alessandro Michele’s – bourgeois fashion is here to stay.
Rock out in an Elie Saab electric blue dress, spice it up in a vibrant red or be royalty-inspired in an all-purple outfit. The idea is simple: pick your favorite shade and wear it from head to toe. Did someone say monochrome? This season’s designers cast aside last winter’s layering trend, to offer a more minimalist color palette – but one that still packed a strong hued punch. The looks saw timeless and monochromatic silhouettes garner eager interest via evocative combinations of textures and shades.
Disco Party
Dig out your Walkman, don your rollerskates and slip into the most sequined outfits you can find, because this season promises to take you on a trip back to the 1980s. Whether in the form of a neon bustier number, a one-shouldered puffy mini dress or an all-mesh outfit, Moschino, Saint Laurent and Christian Cowan’s collections screamed disco. The only question you really will need to ask yourself when donning these looks is… should you go to Studio 54 or Palace?
If there is one thing to be certain of this winter – tartan, checks, lines, and houndstooth are major players in the print game. Contrasting lines, whether mixed together, as small details, or as the feature for one full look, are everywhere.
Dior and Marc Jacobs, amongst others, chose to complement their looks with checked patterns. While Maria Grazia decided to go for a classic British-grunge look, Marc opted for a more minimalistic take. As for Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld’s ultimate collection was intended to take a more graphic shape – bringing back the pattern that Coco Chanel embraced in the 1950s: houndstooth. Once the epitome of chic, this year’s version reimagines the classic print, taking on a more rock, punk and sometimes androgynous style.
