Greg how much of that early goal affected the play of game tonight?
It was a bad goal to give up, we’re not even 2 minutes into the game. Throw-in on the side, we have to deal with it better. I don’t know if it changes the game, but it sure puts us in a hole to start the game. Aside from that we knew what the game was going to look like, telling you from experience this was a very man-to-man game. You take some things away from it, we had some opportunities. We gave away 2 goals that we shouldn’t have, and now we are in the hole going to Mexico.
You just talked about their ma- to-man, how much do you think that affected their energy?
At the end of the day the score comes down to finishing your chances and not giving goals that you shouldn’t give away. The game looks like it looks like because they play man to man, the image of the game changes when a team chooses to play. In the grand scheme of things from what I can recall they didn’t have a ton of shots on net, most from distance, nothing “correct me if I’m wrong” no great looks on goal, we got into some great spots attacking in. Some decent looks on goal, I don’t think the outcome was based on the style of play, I think the outcome is based on both them finishing a couple chances that we should’ve dealt better with. We had a couple looks that we wish we could take back, but that’s how games are contested like that sometimes that’s how the results play out.
It could’ve been disastrous after that first goal, how pleased are you with how the team responded to that?
It was a great reaction, I think our team is experienced in big games, we understand what it’s like. Had to make a bit of an adjustment to set ourselves up in a slightly different way. Good response from the guys. After that goal I thought we had the better part of the first half, but in the second half we probably could’ve gotten more out of it than we did. Obviously, the goals are the goals.
ALEX BONO- GOALKEEPER, TORONTO FC
This is the first time you have to come from behind in the Concacaf Champions League. What are your thoughts on that?
Like I said it’s all in front of us. We know exactly what we have to do. Now we have played them for 90 minutes and we know what to expect. We expect a better performance and we are obviously go for it. We have to. We have to put everything on the line.
What went wrong in the game according to you in your perspective?
On the 2nd goal I made a mistake that led to it and that is on me. I let my guys down in that way and for me it’s just coming back from that and being there for the guys and giving us the best opportunity to get the result.
Did the wind catch it a bit on the 2nd goal? Maybe a little bit but I am not going to sit here and make an excuse about that. It is definitely a misread on my part. It is something I have to own up to and work on in training and that sort of thing and get ready for the next tie.
DREW MOOR– DEFENDER, TORONTO FC
This team has never won on Mexican soil. Can you think of a better time to finally get that first win?
Absolutely not, this is the time. I think Greg said it after the last game, “We didn’t come into this tournament just to get to the finals”. I think if we play our game we can make it a special night in Guadalajara.
How did you think Chivas was different than the last two Mexican teams you played?
They’re a different team then both Tigres & America. They’re very man oriented, very physical. They’ll follow guys all over the field which opens it up a lot but again they’re a good team with a lot of quality. I still think if we raise our game 10-15% and create a couple more chances we can put them on their heels and have a chance to still win this thing.
Do you think you’ve got a chance to win this next week.
Again, like I said we created some good chances and on another day some of those go in and we’re looking at a different result but it’s a positive sign that we’re creating chances. They have a lead now that they’ll want to protect and won’t want to give up any away goals and so we still need to look to create chances, get balls into the box and get service into Jozy & Seba and let them go to work.
