UFC 205 first UFC-event in New York City
|UFC 205 is first UFC-event that is hosted in New York City on Saturday, November 12.
It was a long-time MMA-ban in New York but this was revoked in early 2016. And since then huge promotion been made up partnership with Modells, Reebok, Fight Network, RDX, so nany sponsors to make happen on Saturday’s the UFC 205 event at Madison Square Garden in New York made huge impact.
There are three title bouts: Conor Mcgregor vs Eddie Alvarez, Stephen Thompson vs Tyron woodley, Joanna Jedrzejczyk vs Karolina vs Kowalkiewicz.
UFC women’s strawweight champ Joanna Jedrzejczyk dominated her countrywoman Karolina Kowalkiewicz, but she did not emerged unscathed.
When the all-Polish title fight was over, both Jedrzejczyk (13-0 MMA, 7-0 UFC) and Kowalkiewicz (10-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) wore the damage of a five-round slugfest, though Jedrzejczyk’s unanimous decision win came as no surprise.
The women’s strawweight title bout was part of the main card of today’s UFC 205 event at Madison Square Garden in New York. It aired on pay-per-view following prelims on FS1 and UFC Fight Pass.
The final scores were 49-46 for Jedrzejczyk, who notched her fourth title defense in a rematch of an amateur bout four years prior with Kowalkiewicz in their native country.
The score reflected the moment where Kowalkiewicz briefly turned the tables on Jedrzejczyk, landing a right hand in the fourth round that badly wobbled the champ and left her nose badly swollen.
Apart from that period, it was a signature performance for Jedrzejczyk, the No. 1 fighter in the USA TODAY women’s strawweight rankings. At every turn, she showed herself to be the superior fighter in a mostly standup affair, answering Kowalkiewicz’s incursions with flurries of punches and kicks that kept her at bay.
Kowalkiewicz, the No. 4 strawweight, showed her toughness in pushing through the damage, pushing the champ against the fence. But she struggled to do more than hold Jedrzejczyk, taking knees to the midsection and elbows to the face as the champ disengaged.
As the fight went on, persistent leg kicks left Kowalkiewicz unable to muster the force that produced her best punch of the night. She continued to engage Jedrzejczyk and scored a right hand in the final frame that landed cleanly. The shot wasn’t enough, however, to shift momentum.
“Polish girls are the toughest in the world,” Jedrzejczyk said. “Karolina was very tough. I am the best in the world and I continued to prove that tonight. I will be champion for a long time.”
Kowalkiewicz suffers the first loss of her professional career, while Jedrzejczyk remains unbeaten after 13 fights.
“I am very proud of my performance,” Kowalkiewicz said to sources. “I did my best to push her and I know that I hurt her. She is a great fighter, but I want to do this again. Next year, I want to do this again in Poland – and I will be the new champion.”
