UN Security Officials in New York a week of protest

Breaking News: On October 27, 2025, UN Security Officials in New York staged a protest through a coordinated sick-out to protest proposed cuts to their employment benefits and working conditions.

The action resulted in the closure of the main UN entrance for diplomats, with UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric attributing the reduced security presence to a “staffing issue”. Sources close to the situation, however, confirmed the shortage was a deliberate protest against proposed changes, which disproportionately affected junior staff while management continued to receive enhanced benefits.
