Germany OUT of the World Cup

Defending champions Germany are OUT of the World Cup after a shock defeat by South Korea in their final group game.

Die Mannschaft went into the match knowing a win by any scoreline would be enough to see them through but two injury-time goals saw them slump to a 2-0 loss.

It’s the first time Germany have fallen at the first hurdle of any World Cup since 1938.

The lowest position they had managed since then was seventh – in 1962 and 1998 – and they have also won it four times since 1954, making their premature exit all the more surprising.

Germany only won one of their six games in the build-up to the tournament so perhaps we shouldn’t be so shocked by their poor showing.

However, one thing that did shock most people prior to the start of the World Cup was Leroy Sane’s omission from the squad – and that’s something City fans on Twitter have been quick to remind Joachim Loew about in the wake of their exit.

Sane was involved in more than 30 goals for Manchester City in their title-winning campaign and was awarded PFA Young Player of the Year.
