USA crowned 2018 FIBA U17 W.C
|SANTA FE (FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup 2018) – USA were crowned world champions at the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup 2018 after beating France, 95-52, in the Final on Sunday.
It was their fifth consecutive U17 title, as the United States extended their winning streak to 37 games, dating back to the inaugural event in 2010.
The Americans buckled down defensively in the second quarter and used a 20-2 run to take control and never looked back. They were paced by Isaiah Stewart who led four USA players in double figures with 15 points to go with 9 rebounds.
Killian Hayes was France’s top performer in the game with 10 points.
FIBA President Horacio Muratore, who hails from Argentina, attended the Final.
Earlier, Puerto Rico claimed the last spot on the podium after getting the better of Canada, 90-77, in the 3rd-Place Game.
Jalen Green was rewarded for his impressive display throughout the competition by being named the MVP, offered by Tissot. He was the USA’s leading scorer with 15.7 points per game, and wowed throughout the tournament, adding 2.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.4 steals per outing.
The American star headlined the tournament’s All-Star Five, where he was joined by his teammate Veron Carey Jr., Mali’s Oumar Ballo, Andre Curbelo of Puerto Rico, and France’s Killian Hayes, who completed the lineup.
