NEW YORK (June 10, 2026) — Madison Square Garden Sports Corp. issued an official statement regarding the public watch parties and fan congregation areas outside the arena during the 2026 NBA Finals.

The organization confirmed it has declined a public gathering permit recently granted by the Mayor’s office for the Plaza 33 area. The decision stems from city-enforced security zones restricting spontaneous fan celebrations outside the venue as the Knicks vie for their first championship in 53 years.

The text of the official organizational statement reads as follows:

“Madison Square Garden Sports Corp. has declined the public permit granted for the Plaza 33 fan space outside the arena. Under the modified city terms, the permit caps the designated celebration zone to a maximum of 1,000 fans, requiring the area to be strictly ticketed. Tens of thousands of Knicks fans want to gather safely to support this historic run. We do not believe it is fair or aligned with the spirit of New York to lock out the vast majority of our community while allowing only a small, exclusive group to celebrate outside the Garden gates. Our preference remains an environment where all of New York can share in this moment together.”

Knicks Fundraiser Secures $1 Million for Underprivileged Youth Initiatives [1]

Madison Square Garden Sports Corp. announced today that its exclusive celebrity row ticket auction has raised $1,000,000 to benefit The Garden of Dreams Foundation.

The charity drive centered on a pair of courtside seats for Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden. The winning bid was submitted through a joint philanthropic partnership between the law firm Gibson Dunn and the private equity firm Veritas Capital.

“We want to thank Gibson Dunn and Veritas Capital for their incredible generosity,” stated James Dolan, Executive Chairman and CEO of MSG Sports. “This $1 million donation provides invaluable resources to shape the futures of the young people we serve. This milestone builds directly upon our ongoing postseason initiative to donate hundreds of free NBA Finals tickets to underprivileged youth across the tri-state area.”
