Homegrown Duo called to International Duty for 2018 Concacaf U-20 Championship
Frisco, Texas – FC Dallas’ Paxton Pomykal (U.S. U-20s) and Brandon Servania (U.S. U-20s) have been called in to represent the United States in Group A of the 2018 Concacaf U-20 Championship.
Servania and Pomykal will face Trinidad and Tobago, Suriname, Puerto Rico, Saint Vincent, the Grenadines and U.S. Virgin Islands in group play from Nov. 1-9.
The U.S. opens the group stage against Puerto Rico (Nov. 1), followed by U.S. Virgin Islands (Nov. 3), Trinidad and Tobago (Nov. 5), Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (Nov. 7) and ending with Suriname (Nov. 9).
The U-20s will host the 2018 Concacaf U-20 Championship at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. from Nov. 1-21 with 34 U-20 countries participating. Four team will qualify at the end of the tournament for the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland.
The U.S. returns to the tournament as defending champions, after defeating Honduras 5-3 on penalty kicks in the final on March 5, 2017. The team reached the quarterfinals of the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Korea Republic, where it lost to the tournament runners-up Venezuela 2-1 in extra time after finishing 0-0 in regulation.
The U.S. has qualified for 15 FIFA World Youth Championships/FIFA U-20 World Cups. The USA’s best World Cup finish was a fourth-place performance at the 1989 FIFA World Youth Championship in Saudi Arabia.
