NEW YORK, NY (Oct 31, 2025) — Manhattan’s Sixth Avenue transformed into America’s largest public theater tonight as the 52nd Annual Village Halloween Parade since 1973, brought a massive wave of costumed revelers, towering handmade puppets, and synchronized performers to Lower Manhattan.

Spanning the heart of Greenwich Village, the iconic nighttime event drew over 80,000 active marchers and an estimated two million spectators who packed the sidewalks from Canal Street up to West 15th Street.

Unlike standard city processions separated by strict regulatory cordons, the Village parade maintained its legendary open-door policy. Anyone wearing a costume was invited to join the official march for free, creating a vibrant mix of amateur artistry and professional performance.

The visual core of the event centered on its famous, giant papier-mâché puppets. Crafted by local artists and animated by teams of volunteers, a menagerie of oversized skeletons, glowing ghouls, and shifting creatures floated above the crowds. Interspersed between the giant figures were dozens of live marching bands, brass ensembles, and specialized dance troupes, including the perennial fan-favorite coordinated performance of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.”

The New York City Police Department and transit officials deployed a comprehensive safety and logistical blueprint to manage the historic foot traffic. Cross-streets along the Sixth Avenue corridor underwent rolling vehicle closures starting in the early afternoon, while transit authorities monitored nearby subway hubs to prevent platform overcrowding.
