69TH ANNUAL GERMAN-AMERICAN STEUBEN PARADE NYC
NEW YORK, NY (September 19, 2026) — Today on the Fifth Avenue was transformed into a sea of cornflower blue, red, and gold as thousands of participants and spectators gathered for the 69th Annual German-American Steuben Parade. Marching from E. 65th Street to E. 86th Street, the historic Upper East Side parade celebrated the deep cultural heritage, rich traditions, and enduring contributions of German-Americans to the United States.
The spirited procession featured a colorful array of traditional trachten, lively oompah bands, elaborate floats, and cultural groups representing clubs from across the tri-state area and international guests. Following the march, thousands of attendees moved into Central Park’s Rumsey Playfield for the official German-American Oktoberfest after party, celebrating with authentic music, food, and camaraderie.

Amid growing expectations for city and state executives to march in heritage parades, Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Governor Kathy Hochul did not attend today’s festivities.

During his run for office, Mamdani explicitly stated that he would sharply scale back his attendance at traditional heritage parades on Fifth Avenue to prioritize municipal policy and city affordability instead.
